How "Lace Pottery" Came About....
Strangely enough my pottery career started with crochet!
In 1981 I started my first company - Maggie's Crochet. Between 1981 and 1996, I designed hundreds of afghans and home decor projects for major needlework publishers and yarn companies. My designs were featured in numerous leaflets, magazines, books and on TV.
In 1996 I started publishing my own books and patterns and the MaggiesCrochet.com website. MaggiesCrochet.com has grown to become the largest "all crochet" site with over 3,000 patterns including our designs and those from other crochet publishers.
In 2002 I took a pottery class with my then teenage daughter as a way of spending time with her. No matter how hard I tried I could never get the hang of the wheel. Luckily there was another way! The instructor demonstrated hand building with nylon lace. The wheels in my head began to turn. I had this exquisite antique lace collection at home and I knew how to design any kind of lace to use for impressions. I started bringing doilies into class and hand building bowls. After taking several pottery classes I then rented studio space. In the studio I worked alone with no heat or air. This got to be very tiring so I went back to being a crochet designer. I named my creations "Lace Pottery" and posted pictures on my crochet website with a note that read "I will produce Lace Pottery again in 2006." - Maggie
In 2006 I was inspired to start producing Lace Pottery again with tons of help and support from my husband, children and employees. Every piece of pottery is handmade in our Kernersville, NC studio. "Lace Pottery" is on exhibit at our gallery in Kernersville and a few galleries in the area.
Each peice of pottery is a "One of a kind" work in porcelain for the collector, gallery owner, or anybody in the market for a unique piece of ceramic art to keep or give away. Each piece is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
